Tufts Men's Basketball Scouting
Pre-game scouting reports and self-service analytics dashboards for the Tufts Men's Basketball coaching staff, powered by Synergy tracking data.

Overview
Served as the data analyst for the Tufts University Men's Basketball team during the 2020-21 season. The coaching staff relied heavily on film review to prepare for opponents, but lacked a systematic way to quantify what they were seeing on tape. I bridged that gap by building a scouting analytics workflow on top of Synergy Sports tracking data.
Challenge
Coaches had access to Synergy film but not structured data exports. They needed opponent tendencies distilled into actionable numbers (play type frequencies, shot profiles, efficiency by zone) in a format they could reference quickly during game prep. The reports also had to connect to themes the staff was already emphasizing in film sessions, not just generic stat dumps.
Approach
Built a pipeline to pull Synergy tracking data for upcoming opponents, then generated pre-game scouting reports covering play type breakdowns, shot selection tendencies, and per-player efficiency metrics. Beyond static reports, I created automated self-service dashboards aligned with the coaching staff's film review themes, so coaches could explore opponent tendencies interactively and drill into specific players or game situations.
Impact
The scouting reports became a regular part of the team's game preparation workflow. Coaches used the dashboards to reinforce strategic points of emphasis identified during film sessions, and the quantitative layer helped prioritize which tendencies to game-plan around.
